Habbo Hotel: Help and Safety

Covered in this: Keyloggers; Scammers; The Habbo Way; Top Chat Tips, Habbo Moderators, Scam Sites

What exactly is 'safety' on Habbo? Well, what is the worst that can happen? Well, you could lose EVERYTHING on your Habbo account, and some hackers or scammers even change your password and email address for fun, so you even lose your friends too.

The best ways to keep safe is basically not to fall into ANY traps. Don't bother with free credits or free furni, its NEVER true unless it's a donation in a room where they arn't asking for your password and email.

Scammers are EVERYWHERE on Habbo, and at least one (1) person will fall for the scam. Don't let this be you! Anyone saying they will give you free credits if you give them your password is simply LYING and there is no doubt. NEVER GIVE OUT YOUR PASSWORD TO ANYONE!

If you want to keep everyone safe and Habbo safe, just make sure you report ALL bobbas to the Hobbas. A great way to remember this is: See a 'bobba', make sure you call a 'hobba'!

KEYLOGGERS

This is one way (and the best way) people can hack on Habbo, and the way most are hacked.

What is a keylogger? A keylogger is a program that is sent to you through MSN or by downloads. Never accept files (*.exe) from ANY site or via a MSN Messenger contact you do not trust. This also applies to other Instant Messaging (IM) programs (AIM, Yahoo, etc.). All official Habbo fan sites and other Habbo known fan sites normally will NEVER make you download an '.exe' file. If they do, it is likely to be safe.

A keylogger records all keyboard strokes and sends it to hacker when it is required (for example, every hour). To remove and get rid of keyloggers, the best way is to use an Antivirus application (such as Norton AntiVirus or McAfee), but some are not free. Another method is to download SpySweeper, a free application. Other applications with such roles can be found on CNET Downloads.

Other software which could keep you safe:

  • McAfee VirusScan
  • Norton AntiVirus
  • Ad-Aware
  • Spybot Search and Destroy
  • ZoneAlarm firewall

The best practise is to update your antivirus daily, and scan your ENTIRE computer every week (or at least every month). Scanning every night will be helpful, but not very good for your fan to keep running 24/7. However, the best way to prevent keyloggers is to BE SAFE - don't run programs you don't trust, don't visit websites with harmful content.

SCAMMERS

Although Habbo Hotel is a cool and fun place to spend time on, there are lots of bad people that can't afford getting credits or furni for themselves and want other people to be very miserable. These people will do ANYTHING to steal your furni, friends, and even your email.

ALWAYS REPORT A SCAMMER!

Some people say they can double furni if you accept a trade; or some say they will give you the rarest furni (scripted, highly illegal against Habbo rules); or they say they can give you 1000 credits if you give them your password. NEVER GIVE THEM YOUR PASSWORD!

Lots of people say 'give me a rare and I'll teach you how to hack'! This is ILLEGAL and can get you into serious trouble! Hacking is against ALL laws and you can get sewed for hacking, so don't bother!

I see a lot of house phone scame, these are when they give you their telephone code and they say it's a special code that will give you 100 credits or 1000 credits every time you call. Infact, this just gives them credits, and WASTES YOUR MONEY!

TOP CHAT TIPS

The Internet can be a great place to meet people and form new friendships. But you need to bear in mind that it is easy to lie online, and some people may be pretending to be younger or older than they really are. You may feel that you know them really well, but can never be sure of what a person is like in real life.

Tips to keep in mind:

  • DON'T give out your personal details - NEVER tell anyone your home address, telephone number, name, email address or mobile phone number. Never give out your picture to ANYONE online (we have all seen the mocks or photoshopped images)
  • DON'T meet in real life - If you really have to meet, ALWAYS take a parent or adult friend with you, and ONLY meet in a public place.
  • DON'T talk to people who make you feel uncomfortable - If someone says things to you that you don't like or makes you feel uncomfortable, just leave the site. It only needs one mouse click!
  • DON'T engage in sexual activity online - You will be BANNED from responsible teenage sites for using adult language, and pretending to have sex (often referred to as 'cyber'). Play safe, and DON'T TAKE THE RISK of being banned.
  • DO tell your parents or guardians what you are doing - By telling them where you are hanging out online (and even showing them), you will put their minds at rest.
  • DO call for help if you need to - Alert the sites' moderators and report anything suspicious or anything that makes you uncomfortable. Some sites have a function that lets you speak to a moderator instantly at any time.
  • DO HAVE FUN! This is the whole point after all.

HOTEL MODERATORS

What is a 'Hotel Moderator'?

Moderators are carefully selected, police vetted and fully trained members of the Habbo Hotel staff. They can send warnings to misbehaving Habbos, kick them out of rooms or even ban them from the hotel. Habbo Moderators will not hesitate to contact the police if they feel it is necessary.

Habbo Moderators are backed up by a team of nearly 200 Hotel guides called Hobbas. Hobbas are players who know alot about the Hotel and want to help other players understand what to do and how to enjoy Habbo Hotel as much as they can.

Moderators help you if you get hacked and can trace your furni if it is taken by anone you think may have hacked you. Moderators can actually see through walls if your furni is ever put into the walls by someone evil and nasty that had your rights. Remember to reset rights every month or so by clicking 'Own Rooms', then selecting a room, then 'Options', and finally at the bottom, click 'Reset'. If you have problems, just contact a Hobba.

How do I contact a Moderator?

To get emergency help from a Moderator, at any time of the day or night, simply use the 'Call for Help' function, located in the blue question mark at the bottom of the screen. A moderator (or even a Hobba) will either send you a message or come and see you.

Moderators can actually tell if you have more than one account. This is useful because, say you know who hacked you but he had 10 accounts. The moderator can check all the accounts (one by one) and see what furniture they have. Moderators CAN go in rooms which are locked or have door bell lock on them.

Bad Language

While Habbo wants all the hotel guests to enjoy themselves and talk about whatever they want, there are some topics of conversation and words that may cause offense to others. For this reason, Habbo Hotel uses a technical filter that replaces certain words and phrases with the word 'bobba' - the Bobba filter.

If you see any one using bad language and it is offendin you, be sure to report him/her straight away, the matter will be taken care of. Remember: ALL the hotel is filtered, no matter where you are in Habbo Hotel.
